Rajender Kumar is an academician. He has an extensive teaching experience of more than 19 years. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree by Maharaja Ganga Singh University in 2010 for his research on the topic “Wool Trade in Western Rajputana: Its Impact on Society and Economy.” While having a keen interest in the field of research, Kumar has kept a good eye on the archival records of the various Rajput states stored in the Rajasthan State Archives, Bikaner. He has done his various research works on the history of 18th-century Rajasthan, such as Trade and Commerce of the 18th-century Western Rajputana and the Military system of Marwar state. He has authored a book titled Atharahvi Sadi: Bikaner (2021). He has also edited a Conference Proceeding of the Rajasthan Archaeology and Epigraphy Congress. His upcoming books on the Military System of Marwar State (18th Century) and Temple Management of Western Rajputana during the Early Modern Period are in process.
Dr. Kumar’s latest study (2021) “Temple Management in North-West Rajasthan and Government and Non-Governmental Perspective: A Historical Study (1650 To 1850 AD)”, as a Tagore Fellow of the National Archives of India, New Delhi, under the scheme of the Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
He was a member of a committee established by the Center for Museum and Documentation, Maharaja Ganga Singh University, Bikaner, for developing a museum for archaeological objects and historical documents (2019). He is a core member of a four member-oriented committee of the Rajasthan Oriental Research Institute, Bikaner (A Department of the Government of Rajasthan). He has been Secretary of the Archaeology and Epigraphy Society and the Archaeology and Epigraphy Congress. He has also organized two National Sessions of 2022 and 2023.
He was a Tagore Fellow of the National Archives of India, New Delhi (2019-21), and a Post-Doctoral Fellow of the ICHR (2013-15), a Research Project Awardee and JRF (2008-10) of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), New Delhi.
He has an outstanding academic record in the History subject. He has participated in more than 55 national and international seminars, conferences and workshops. More than 60 of his research papers on different aspects of trade, society, environment, architecture and military system of Rajputana have been published in various reputed journals.
He also has a responsibility of an editor of five research journals such as Vishvambhara of Hindi Vishva Bharati (2024-till now); Global Researcher View, (An International Peer Reviewed Journal) (2018-till now); Journal of Archaeology & Epigraphy of (Archaeology and Epigraphy Society) (2020-till now); Juni Khyat, UGC Listed Journal of Maru Bhumi Shodh Sansthan, Sri Dungargarh, Bikaner (2019-2022); Abhilekh, a Journal of Rajasthan State Archives, Bikaner (2024-till now).
Dr. Kumar has, for many decades, been associated with several educational and research institutions with a focus on local history to promoting archival documents. He is a well-known old Rajasthani script reader. He has delivered many lectures in workshops, seminars, and symposiums on ‘History writing’ and ‘Archival documents’.
He has been Secretary of the Hindi Vishva Bharati, Bikaner (Rajasthan), since March, 2024.
