Dr. G. S. Sharma (b. 5 March 1938) passed his M.A. (History) from Dungar College, Bikaner. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of Rajasthan, Jaipur, on a thesis which was later published under the name of Marwari Vyapari (Hindi) is acclaimed in the scholarly world as the first comprehensive and well-documented work on the business history of Rajasthan. Besides this, he has written and critically edited several standard works, which have thrown new light on different aspects of Rajasthan history.
Dr. Sharma retired as Deputy Director from Rajasthan State Archives, Bikaner. He received training as an Archivist at the National Archives of India, New Delhi, and he also obtained a Diploma in Archives Keeping. He performed his duty efficiently by providing guidelines to the researchers for the consultation of records at the Rajasthan State Archives.
Dr. Sharma has been deeply interested in research, so he became an expert scholar of the social and economic history of Rajasthan, including the history of the freedom movement here. Not only this, his pen has been continuously working on the literature and culture of this place. The specialty of your work is that whatever you write or analyze is mostly based on authentic documents. As a result, it has a unique identity in the research world. Many young research scholars in the country and abroad continue to benefit from your guidance in supplying the desired documentary sources to verify the facts in their research projects.
Over a long period of time, various research works by you have been published in many historical and academic journals, reflecting your deep scholarship and consistent contribution to the field.
It has been appreciated by cultural scholars. Besides, many works have been reviewed and published in many reputed research journals. Notable journals are “The Indian Economics and Social History Review”, the main journal of Delhi School of Economics, New Delhi, research journal “Medieval India” of Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, editor Irfan Habib, etc.
Before becoming the President of Hindi Vishva Bharati Organization, he had been holding the post of Secretary for the last 15 years, and had also been discharging the responsibility of editorship of Vishvambhara Journal very well.
